Anteros Arts Foundation would like to welcome similar organisations to share networking opportunities and best practice at this event aimed at Chief Executive Officers, executive directors, trustees and management.
Since re-housing in the building formerly known as The King of Hearts, Anteros is developing its arts support programme, as well as its art gallery, arts courses and venue hire function.
Anteros will be welcoming guest speakers to share best practice and provide an introduction to their specialist areas. The event is presented in partnership with Lovewell Blake and Hansells Solicitors who will be offering expert advice in their specialist fields on the day.
Mark Proctor of Lovewell Blake said: “Our specialist team work with many charities and not-for-profit organisations and we are pleased to be supporting Anteros with this seminar. It is a great opportunity for cultural and charitable organisations to get together and share advice and expertise.”
Mark will be providing a brief update on future developments to the charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice), a reminder of fund accounting rules, establishing a reserves policy, effects of the current economic climate and things to be aware of when considering other sources of income.
Philip Norton of Hansells Solicitors will be covering an examination of charitable purposes under the latest Act; structures that can be adopted for charities; managing risk and liability and a brief look at incorporation.
The seminar will also include an introduction to arts marketing & developing a brand, delivered by East Publishing – another Norwich-based firm with a great reputation in its field. There will also be an update on other regional projects and the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad & Festival 2012 plans for next year.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to welcome similar organisations into our venue, sharing ideas and networking all under one roof and to offer a high calibre of guest speakers who will focus on their specialist areas” said John Hemmant, Director of Anteros Arts Foundation.
There will be a coffee break and the opportunity to network and ask further questions with the guest speakers. A buffet lunch will also be available. Young photographer debuts at Anteros with ‘North Shores’
12.08.11
A young emerging photography from Norwich, debuts his first exhibition at Anteros Arts Centre this summer.
Alex March has an unyielding passion for the coast and has spent the last four years creating a collection of work across Norfolk’s north coast and New Zealand’s North Island – resulting in his first exhibition of work called ‘North Shores’.
Based in Norwich, Alex spent many months living on Auckland’s North Shore throughout 2010 – giving him an opportunity to contrast the golden hues of a Norfolk dawn with the blood red skies of a New Zealand sunset.
“I’ve always loved the coast, but it was a simple snap on a mobile phone that suddenly opened my eyes to the beauty of the sea when seen through a lens – it was at this moment a world of new coastal adventures and challenges opened up to me” said Alex.
“My training is in portrait photography and this inspired me to view what many would see as a traditional landscapes in a new way – creating portraits of the coast as it were.” He added.
The exhibition is presented in the Mezzanine Gallery on the first floor, which is the first time a collection would have been shown in the space.
“We have so many different spaces within our venue, it’s a pleasure to be using them as much as we can. This exhibition, located upon entrance to the Tudor-beamed Music Room is a forward-looking way of supporting emerging practitioners and using our wonderful spaces” added John Hemmant, Director of Anteros Arts.
Having traveled to other countries, Alex feels bias towards the shores of Norfolk. “The beauty of shooting coastal portraits is that they also allow me to capture big skies, something for which Norfolk is famous for, in much of the picture. I always feel the sky is a bit forgotten in a traditional landscape hence the use of portraiture in much of my work. The 4am start to capture - the perfect light, or a trek through the mud flats, just adds to the fun.”
North Shores compliments the other coastal-themed exhibition currently housed in the main gallery; ‘Time Wall’ by renowned abstract artist Roger Ackling is made up of pieces of found-wood from the coast, where is has burnt patterns into the wood using just rays of the sun and a magnifying glass.
‘North Shores’ launches during a busy week for Anteros Arts, with a summer jazz concert on the Wednesday evening, Open Evening and an open arts discussion on the Thursday evening.
North Shores runs from 15th August to 17th September and all the works are for sale.
For more information about the Anteros Arts programme and exhibitions or tickets for the Wednesday jazz concert, call (01603) 766129 or check out www.anteros.co.uk.

Modern Jazz, ‘Hive Art’ Books and Open Discussion
make up Summer at the Anteros Arts Centre
08.08.11
Right in the heart of the city centre, Anteros Arts is presenting two summer events to encourage more people to engage with its activity and the venue itself.
A summer jazz concert is the first concert under the arms of new owners of what was previously known as The King of Hearts. It takes place on Wednesday 17th August at 8pm. The concert features The Babelfish Quartet, made up of four of the area’s finest jazz musicians- Matt Hodges on keys, Adam Moore on guitar, Owen Morgan on bass and Cath Evans on drums. Familiar sounds of John Coltrane, Bill Evans and Chick Corea along with striking original material and free improvisations will fill our lovely venue. The Babelfish Quartet continues to develop a following among young, attractive modern jazz aficionados with its complex interplay between guitar and keys and delicately balanced yet powerful and authoritative rhythm section.
“The summer is a great opportunity to try out a new concert and to see what the uptake is so we can plan more for the future. The jazz concert has been organised to rekindle local passion for the music programme and also to help raise funds to maintain it.” said Joseph Ballard from the Anteros Arts team.
All tickets for the jazz concert are just £10 from Anteros Arts Centre or you can reserve your tickets by calling (01603) 766129.
On Thursday 18th August Anteros is hosting its very first Open Evening, where everyone is invited to have a look around the historic building, preview new exhibitions and meet the Anteros Team, artists and arts course tutors. The new branch of ‘The Book Hive’ (arts specialist books) will also be officially launched during the evening. It is called ‘Hive Art’ and will be the city’s only arts-dedicated bookstore, staffed by a team of specialists.
“We’re always open for people to come in and have a look around, whether it’s to see one of our exhibitions or find out more about our arts courses to networking events.” said John Hemmant, Director of Anteros Arts.
“The Open Evening is a valuable chance to meet the Anteros team and find out more about us. We want to make an impact on the local and national arts scene and we welcome all suggestions and more people to help us with this” he continued.
The Open Evening will be followed by an open discussion, chaired by John Hemmant (Director of Anteros Arts Foundation) who will be joined by respected local arts facilitators and artists. The topic: ‘Art: luxury or necessity?’. The discussion will begin at 7.30pm and the Open Evening will take place 6-8pm.
These summer events will all take place alongside the current exhibitions of Roger Ackling (in the gallery) and his ‘Time Wall’ (runs to 20th August), ‘Life on Lesvos’ by Jan Ponsford in the café (to end of August) and ‘North Shores’ (in the Mezzanine Gallery) by photographer Alex March.
